Bought a gun online, at auction, or from a friend? Right to Bear Arms handles FFL and NFA transfers at our Montgomery Blvd store. We're a veteran- and family-owned shop, and we'll get you through the paperwork quickly. Military and veteran discounts available.

Transfer Fees

Guns bought in our store or on our website: No transfer fee
Valid NM CCW licensees, Military, Veterans, Public Safety / First Responders: $30
Routine transfer: $40
Each additional firearm on the same 4473 / background check: 50% off
SOT / Class 3 (machine guns and destructive devices): $125
Suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, AOWs: $40 (now transfer on a 4473; see below)
Form 4 fee (items still requiring a Form 4, or if you choose to file one): $15
Storage: $30/month past 30 days without prior arrangement

Note: We do not ship to California (AB 1263).

How to Ship a Firearm to Us

Buy your firearm from the online seller or auction.
Have the seller send FFL requests to Receiving@RightToBearArmsNM.com
Ship to: Right to Bear Arms, 11200 Montgomery Blvd NE, Suite 9 & 10, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
Have the seller include your name and phone number in the box.
Email or text us the tracking number so we know it's coming.

Dealers: please include a signed copy of your FFL with the shipment, or email it to receiving@righttobeararmsnm.com.

Pickup & Storage

We'll call you when your transfer is processed, or you can come in 24 hours after your carrier's delivery notice. Guns are held 30 days unless a longer hold is approved in writing. Storage is $30/month past 30 days without prior arrangement. Firearms left more than 180 days become the property of Right to Bear Arms.

What to Bring

Valid NM photo ID or driver's license.
Your NM concealed carry license, if you have one ($30 rate, and see the waiting period section).
Payment for the transfer fee.

You'll fill out an ATF Form 4473 and we'll run the NICS background check in store.

Out-of-State Buyers

We can transfer long guns (rifles and shotguns) to residents of other states when the sale is legal in both New Mexico and your home state. Federal law requires handguns to be transferred through an FFL in your state of residence. Not sure? Call us before you buy.

Suppressors, SBRs, SBSs and AOWs (NFA Items)

Under ATF's October 9, 2026 letter, suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns (SBSs) and AOWs now transfer on a Form 4473 with a NICS check, the same as a regular firearm. Buyers must be 21 or older for suppressors, AOWs, and SBRs/SBSs under 26" overall. A Form 4 is now optional for these items: if you prefer to file one, our Form 4 fee is $15. Items that still require a Form 4 (machine guns, destructive devices, etc.) also carry the $15 Form 4 fee. Rules are changing fast, so call us before ordering and we'll walk you through it.

New Mexico 7-Day Waiting Period

New Mexico has a 7-day waiting period on most firearm sales, including SBRs, SBSs and AOWs. Suppressors are not covered. Some buyers are exempt, including NM concealed handgun license holders. The law is currently being challenged in court, so ask us how it applies to you.

FAQs

Can I ship to you from any online store or auction?

Yes, from any licensed dealer. Private sellers out of state must ship through their own FFL or provide a copy of their Driver’s License.

What if I fail the background check or get delayed?

We hold the firearm while NICS completes the check. If denied, POLICY: Buyer will pay all associated fees incurred to ship item back and a transfer fee coinciding with what they purchased.

Do you transfer ammunition or parts?

Can someone else pick up my gun?

No. The person who fills out the 4473 must be the buyer.

Can I just order it through you instead?

Often, yes, and it may cost less than paying shipping plus a transfer. Ask us for a quote.
